44 years ago.....
January 1, 1962.
44 years ago today, The Beatles (with Pete Best) went to Decca Records for an audition, one which they did not pass. Of course, after The Beatles' eventual success, Decca was happy to snap up The Stones.
15 of the tracks they recorded that day have survived. 15 tracks - amazing, isn't it? Only a few were featured on "Anthology 1", but they're all pretty easily available on bootlegs. One of the absolute best Beatle sites on the 'net, BEATLESOURCE.COM, has a nice page on the audition, along with MP3s of the tracks that were not officially released. Here's a link to the page, and while you're there, poke around a bit. It really is a great site.
