12-inch heaven, part 4

Come on, admit it - aren't these dance mixes great? Here we have a JACKSONS 12-inch from 1984. The cover says "Lead Vocals by Michael Jackson and Mick Jagger. Produced by Michael Jackson". And its "Taken from the Epic Lp 'Victory'."

On the label, the years next to the "P" in a circle (isn't that like a "sound recording" copyright or something?) is different on either side. The Dance Mix says P1984, but the Instrumental says P1980. Could Jackson have started this track in 1980, or is it just a typo? Interesting.

So here they are, JACKO and JAGS.....

STATE OF SHOCK (DANCE MIX)

STATE OF SHOCK (INSTRUMENTAL)

UPDATE 1/3/06: Chris wrote in with some info:
"The sessions for the Jacksons/Jagger collaboration took place from 6th to 10th May 1984, at NYC's A&R Studios. Producer was Michael Jackson himself, while behind the studio glass stood Dave Jerden. In these four days, a line-up made of MJ (voc), Michael Jackson (voc), Jackie Jackson (bvoc), Marlon Jackson (bvoc), Johnny Ray Nelson (bvoc), David Williams (gtr, bass) and Paulinho Da Costa (perc) cut four versions of the State Of Shock track: album version, single edit, instrumental and special version.

"On 28th June 1984 both the 7" (Epic A 4431 - including the single edit, with "Your Ways" as b-side) and the lp "Victory" (featuring the album version) got released.

"On 13th July 1984 the 12" bringing the instrumental and the special version hit the streets."

Thanks again Chris!
